Day 1: Arrival & Introduction to Tsavo East
Morning:

Early Morning to Tsavo East
You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Nairobi, Drive along the Mombasa highway through scenic countryside (approx. 5–6 hrs)Tsavo East National Park. -
Enter Tsavo East through the Bachuma Gate
Late Morning:
- Game Drive – Introduction to Tsavo East
After a brief check-in at your lodge or camp, you’ll head straight out for your first game drive in Tsavo East National Park. The park is known for its vast landscapes, home to a wide variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, cheetahs, giraffes, and buffaloes, among others. Tsavo is also famous for its red elephants, which get their color from the red earth they dust themselves with.
Lunch:
- After your morning game drive, return to your lodge for a delicious lunch, either in the dining area or in a scenic bush setting, depending on your lodge’s offerings.

Visit to Aruba Dam or More Game Drives
In the afternoon, head to Aruba Dam, a popular water source in Tsavo East, where you can see large herds of elephants and other wildlife coming to drink. This is also a great spot for birdwatching, as the dam attracts a wide variety of birds, including white-bellied bustards, kori bustards, and hornbills.Alternatively, you can enjoy another game drive in different areas of the park, exploring more remote regions and spotting wildlife in the cooler late afternoon hours.

Day 2: Full-Day Exploration of Tsavo East
Early Morning:
- Morning Game Drive
Rise early for a morning game drive. Early morning is the best time to see predators like lions and cheetahs before the heat of the day sets in. You will also have a chance to see herbivores like zebras, gazelles, and buffaloes in the cooler morning hours.
Breakfast:
- After your game drive, return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast.
Mid-Morning:
- Visit to the Yatta Plateau
In the late morning, head to the Yatta Plateau, one of the longest lava flows in the world. The plateau offers incredible views of the surrounding park and is a great spot for a photo opportunity. It’s also home to wildlife like warthogs, impalas, and giraffes.
Lunch:
- Enjoy lunch back at the lodge or camp. Some lodges offer bush lunches, where you can enjoy a meal in the wilderness, adding to the adventure.

Game Drive in the Western Tsavo Region
In the afternoon, embark on a game drive in the western part of the park. This area is known for its rugged terrain and scenic views, providing a completely different landscape compared to the eastern parts. You’ll have the opportunity to see a variety of wildlife, including elephants, hyenas, jackals, and possibly even a leopard. -
If you're interested in the Taita Hills, you can take a brief detour to explore the region’s diverse wildlife and enjoy its panoramic views.
