Tour Schedule

Day 1: Arrival and Introduction to Maasai Mara

Morning:

  • Departure from Nairobi
Begin your adventure with an early morning departure from Nairobi (around 7:00 AM). You’ll drive through the Great Rift Valley, taking in stunning landscapes along the way. The journey to Maasai Mara takes about 5 to 6 hours, including a brief stop for refreshments and sightseeing.

Lunch:

  • Arrival at Maasai Mara & Picnic Lunch
Arrive at Maasai Mara National Reserve by early afternoon, and have a light picnic lunch at one of the entry gates, such as Sekenani Gate.

Afternoon:

  • Game Drive & Set Up Camp
After lunch, embark on your first game drive within the reserve. The Maasai Mara is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the Big Five (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos), as well as cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest. Your guide will take you on an exciting drive through the park, showcasing the diverse wildlife and giving you a chance to capture photos.

  • After the game drive, head to your camping site, where your crew will have already set up tents for you. The camps are typically located in prime spots, offering fantastic views and close proximity to wildlife.

Evening:

  • Sundowners & Dinner at Camp
Enjoy a sundowner while watching the sun set over the Mara plains, followed by a hearty dinner around the campfire. Your safari guide will share stories of the animals and local Maasai culture as you enjoy your meal under the African sky.

Overnight:

  • Camping in Maasai Mara (in tents with comfortable bedding)

Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive and Exploring Maasai Mara

Early Morning:

  • Breakfast at Camp
After an early breakfast, prepare for a full-day game drive. The Maasai Mara is famous for its incredible wildlife and expansive plains. Early morning is the best time for animal sightings, particularly predators like lions and cheetahs that are most active at this time.

  • Morning Game Drive
Head out into the park early to observe the abundant wildlife, from herds of wildebeest and zebras to lions hunting in the tall grasses. Depending on the time of year, you may also witness the Great Migration, a spectacular natural event where millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles travel across the Mara River.

Lunch:

  • Picnic Lunch in the Park
Stop at a scenic spot for a picnic lunch, allowing you to relax and enjoy the wilderness while having a meal. Your guide will ensure a safe and comfortable lunch spot near waterholes or in the shade of a tree.

Afternoon:

  • Afternoon Game Drive
After lunch, continue your exploration of the Mara with a relaxing afternoon game drive, where you'll focus on spotting wildlife and enjoying the scenery. This time of day is perfect for spotting large herds of elephants, giraffes, and buffaloes, along with different bird species and other predators like hyenas and jackals.

  • Optional Visit to a Maasai Village
If you're interested in cultural exploration, you can also visit a Maasai village (optional activity), where you will have the chance to learn about the Maasai people, their traditions, and their close connection to the land.

Evening:

  • Sundowners & Dinner at Camp
Enjoy another stunning sundowner and relax as the sun sets over the plains. Return to camp for a satisfying dinner prepared by your safari crew.

Overnight:

  • Camping in Maasai Mara

Day 3: Early Morning Game Drive & Optional Balloon Safari

Early Morning:

  • Early Morning Game Drive
Rise early for a pre-breakfast game drive. The early morning light provides fantastic opportunities for photography and the best chances of spotting active predators like lions and cheetahs.

  • Optional Hot Air Balloon Safari
For an extra special experience, you can opt for an early morning hot air balloon safari (at an additional cost). This once-in-a-lifetime experience allows you to float over the Mara’s plains, observing wildlife from above, and landing for a champagne breakfast in the bush.

Breakfast:

  • Breakfast at Camp or Post-Balloon Safari
Return to camp for a hearty breakfast after your game drive or balloon safari, where you can discuss the incredible sights of the morning.

Mid-Morning:

  • Relaxation & Wildlife Viewing
After breakfast, you have the option to either relax at camp, enjoying the surroundings, or take a short nature walk with your guide. Walking safaris allow you to learn about the smaller creatures of the Mara, such as insects, birds, and plant life.

Lunch:

  • Lunch at Camp or Picnic
Enjoy lunch back at camp or, depending on where you are, a picnic in the wilderness. This provides another opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of the Mara.

Afternoon:

  • Afternoon Game Drive
Embark on another afternoon game drive, where you may have the chance to spot any animals you might have missed. Depending on the time of year, you may be fortunate to witness migration activities or predator-prey interactions.

Evening:

  • Sundowners & Dinner at Camp
As always, enjoy a sundowner drink while taking in the magnificent sunset over the Mara, followed by a dinner at camp under the stars.

Overnight:

  • Camping in Maasai Mara

Day 4: Final Game Drive & Departure

Early Morning:

  • Morning Game Drive
On your final morning in the Maasai Mara, enjoy one last game drive as the sun rises over the plains. The early morning offers the perfect opportunity to see the Mara’s wildlife at their most active.

Breakfast:

  • Return to Camp for Breakfast
After the game drive, head back to camp for breakfast and pack your belongings.

Lunch:

  • Lunch at Camp or Picnic Stop
Depending on your departure time, you will enjoy a final lunch at the camp or on the road, before heading back to Nairobi.

Afternoon:

  • Drive Back to Nairobi
After lunch, embark on the drive back to Nairobi, with scenic views of the Great Rift Valley along the way. You’ll arrive back in Nairobi in the late afternoon or early evening.
