Arrive at Ol Pejeta Conservancy via a flight to Nanyuki Airstrip (about 45 minutes from Nairobi) or by road (about 4-5 hours drive from Nairobi). Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your lodge or camp, such as Sweetwaters Serena CampOl Pejeta Bush Camp, or Kicheche Bush Camp, depending on your choice of accommodation.

Lunch:

  • Enjoy a welcome lunch at your lodge or camp, with spectacular views of the conservancy’s plains or nearby waterholes.

Afternoon:

  • First Game Drive
After lunch, set out on your first afternoon game drive in Ol Pejeta. The conservancy is home to an array of wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhino). Ol Pejeta is also famous for its rhino sanctuary where you can see both black and white rhinos up close. This game drive will give you a taste of the wildlife experience in Ol Pejeta, which also features giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, and a variety of bird species.

Evening:

  • Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and unwind by the campfire, listening to the sounds of the African night.

Overnight:

  • Stay overnight at your lodge or camp in Ol Pejeta.

Day 2: Game Drives, Rhino Sanctuary & Chimpanzee Sanctuary

Early Morning:

  • Early Morning Game Drive
Start the day early with a morning game drive, taking advantage of the cooler temperatures when wildlife is most active. This is the best time to spot predators like lions or leopards hunting, or to see herds of elephants moving through the plains. You’ll also have the chance to spot wildlife at the conservancy’s waterholes, where animals gather in the early morning.

Breakfast:

  • After the game drive, enjoy a hearty breakfast back at your lodge or camp.

Mid-Morning:

  • Visit the Ol Pejeta Rhino Sanctuary
After breakfast, take a visit to the Ol Pejeta Rhino Sanctuary, which is home to some of the world’s most endangered rhinos. This is where you can get an up-close experience with the northern white rhinos, the last of their kind. A ranger guide will provide an informative tour, sharing the conservation efforts in place to protect these magnificent creatures.

Lunch:

  • Head back to the lodge for lunch and relax for a bit.

Afternoon:

  • Chimpanzee Sanctuary Visit
In the afternoon, visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary within Ol Pejeta. This sanctuary is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned and abused chimpanzees. Here, you’ll learn about the sanctuary’s role in chimpanzee conservation, and you might even see some of the chimpanzees interact and play in their enclosures.

Evening:

  • Evening Game Drive or Sundowner
You can either take a short evening game drive or enjoy a sundowner at a scenic viewpoint, overlooking the vast plains of the conservancy as the sun sets. It's a perfect moment to reflect on the day’s experiences.

Dinner & Overnight:

  • Enjoy a delicious dinner at the lodge or camp and relax for the night.

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive & Safari Activities

Early Morning:

  • Morning Game Drive
Head out early for a longer, more in-depth game drive across Ol Pejeta’s diverse ecosystems. Visit the Ewaso Nyiro River for sightings of elephants and other wildlife that frequent the riverbanks. You might also come across herds of buffalo and large predators, like lions or cheetahs, in the vast savannah.

Breakfast:

  • Enjoy a breakfast in the bush with a scenic view during your game drive (some lodges offer breakfast in the bush as a special experience).

Mid-Morning:

  • Exploration of the Conservancy
Continue exploring Ol Pejeta, taking in the beauty of the conservancy’s mix of grassland, forest, and riverine environments. The landscape is home to a rich diversity of wildlife, and depending on the time of year, you could witness migratory birds or other animals interacting with the changing environment.

Lunch:

  • Return to your lodge for lunch and some time to relax.

Afternoon:

  • Safari Activities
In the afternoon, engage in other activities offered by your lodge or camp, including:
    • Cultural Visit: Visit a nearby Maasai village to learn about the local Maasai culture and traditions.
    • Walking Safari: Explore the conservancy on foot with an experienced guide to learn more about the smaller creatures, plants, and the ecosystem that makes Ol Pejeta so unique.

Evening:

  • After an exciting day of exploration, head back for a relaxing evening game drive or simply enjoy your lodge’s peaceful environment, possibly with a sundowner drink and a chance to reflect on the day.

Dinner & Overnight:

  • Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and enjoy your final night in Ol Pejeta.

Day 4: Morning Safari & Departure

Early Morning:

  • Final Game Drive
On your last day, take a final early morning game drive in Ol Pejeta. This is a great opportunity to catch any animals you may have missed or to revisit familiar wildlife hotspots. It's also the perfect time to see the wildlife waking up to start their day.

Breakfast:

  • Return to your lodge for breakfast after the game drive.

Mid-Morning:

  • Relax & Depart
After breakfast, enjoy a little free time at the lodge to relax or take a final stroll around the camp. If your departure is in the afternoon, you could enjoy a relaxing lunch before heading back.
