Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Mount Kenya National Park
Morning:

Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Nairobi or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. From Nairobi, you will embark on a scenic drive to the Mount Kenya National Park (approximately 3.5 to 4 hours), passing through picturesque landscapes, tea farms, and the rich agricultural land of central Kenya.
Late Morning:
- Arrival at Sirimon Gate
Upon arrival at Sirimon Gate (2,600 meters), you’ll be introduced to your climbing crew, including your mountain guide and porters. After completing the necessary registration and safety briefings, you’ll begin your trek through the forest.
Lunch:
- Lunch at the Gate
Enjoy a light picnic lunch or lunch provided by your camp staff.
Afternoon:
- Trek to Old Moses Camp (3,300 meters)
Begin your hike through Montane Forest and Moorland. The hike to Old Moses Camp is about 9 km and takes approximately 3-4 hours. This section of the trek is relatively easy, and you’ll pass through lush bamboo and hagenia forests, often encountering wildlife like Colobus monkeys and forest birds.
Evening:

Settle into the camp, where you’ll be served hot drinks and dinner. The camp has great facilities, including tents, a dining area, and warm facilities.

Day 2: Old Moses Camp to Shipton's Camp

After breakfast, begin the day’s hike. The trek to Shipton’s Camp (about 14 km, 6-7 hours) involves a gradual ascent through moorland, with scenic views of the Mackinder’s Valley and the Gorge Valley. As you gain altitude, the vegetation becomes sparser, and the landscape begins to open up with views of the jagged peaks of Mount Kenya.

Your guide will stop for a picnic lunch along the way or once you reach Shipton’s Camp. Take in the dramatic views as you rest and enjoy your meal.
Afternoon:
- Explore Shipton’s Camp Area
Once you arrive at Shipton’s Camp in the afternoon, you’ll have time to acclimatize and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Batian Peak and Nelion Peak. The camp is strategically located to help with altitude acclimatization.
Evening:
- Dinner & Relaxation
After dinner, you’ll have the opportunity to rest and prepare for the next day’s climb.

Day 3: Acclimatization Hike & Rest at Shipton’s Camp
Early Morning:

After breakfast, you’ll begin your acclimatization hike to help prepare for the summit day.
Morning:
- Acclimatization Hike to the Hausberg Col
A short hike of about 2-3 hours (4-5 km) will take you to Hausberg Col (4,700 meters), providing excellent views of the surrounding peaks, including Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana. The hike is not strenuous but helps your body adjust to the altitude.
Lunch:

After the acclimatization hike, return to the camp for a well-deserved lunch.
Afternoon:
- Rest & Relaxation
Spend the afternoon resting and staying hydrated to prepare for the summit attempt the following day. You can enjoy the camp’s scenic surroundings, taking in the views of the peaks and the rugged landscape.

- Early Dinner & Rest
Have an early dinner, as you'll need to rest for an early summit attempt the next day.
Overnight:

Day 4: Summit Attempt to Point Lenana
Early Morning:
- Midnight Start for the Summit
After a light breakfast, depart from Shipton’s Camp at around midnight for the summit attempt. The journey to Point Lenana (4,985 meters) takes about 7-8 hours and is physically demanding, especially due to the altitude.

The hike to Point Lenana, the third-highest peak of Mount Kenya, is challenging but achievable for climbers with a good level of fitness. As you ascend, you’ll pass through alpine zones and rocky paths, with a challenging final stretch.

- Descent to Shipton’s Camp
After taking photos and celebrating your achievement, begin the descent back to Shipton’s Camp. The descent takes around 3-4 hours.

Once you reach Shipton’s Camp, enjoy a late lunch and rest after the long day of climbing.
Evening:
- Dinner & Relaxation
After dinner, relax and reflect on the summit success. This will be a well-earned rest after an unforgettable achievement.
Overnight:

Day 5: Descend to Sirimon Gate & Departure
Morning:
- Breakfast & Start the Descent
After breakfast, begin the descent from Shipton’s Camp back to Sirimon Gate. This will take approximately 5-6 hours as you walk through the scenic Mackinder’s Valley and Moorland areas, gradually descending into the lush montane forest.
Lunch:
- Lunch at the Gate or a Picnic Stop
Once you reach Sirimon Gate, enjoy a light lunch before transferring back to Nairobi.
Afternoon:
- Return to Nairobi
After your descent, you will be transferred back to Nairobi, where you’ll arrive in the late afternoon or evening.
Evening:
- Arrive in Nairobi
You’ll be dropped off at your hotel or Nairobi airport for your onward travel.
